The countdown to the Rafting World Championships 2023.
Once again the river Adda is the star of an international event which, from 26 June to 1 July, will enliven Valtellina with over 30 countries and more than 400 athletes competing on the Boffetto rapids in Piateda and in Sondrio, in the section of river between the Bartesaghi park and Sassella.
The WRF, or World Rafting Federation, decided to entrust Italy with the WRF Senior World Rafting Championships, finding Adda Viva Indomita Valtellina River to be a reliable and well-prepared interlocutor.
The club, founded 40 years ago and led by the president of the Federazione Italiana Rafting, Benedetto Del Zoppo, was in a position to give specific guarantees to the international body.
But as everyone knows, you don't win alone!
Forming a team with Indomita are all the local organisations, who deserve credit for believing in a truly unique challenge.
Lombardy Region, Sondrio Province, BIM, Comunità Montana Valtellina di Sondrio, and the Comunes of Sondrio and Piateda immediately pledged their support.
There was also valuable support from the Comune of Castione Andevenno, home to the club headquarters, and that of Poggiridenti for accommodating the athletes.
Organising the Rafting World Championships was also an important opportunity to consolidate the collaboration between Indomita Valtellina River and operators in the hydroelectricity sector, long-established in Valtellina.
The hydroelectricity big players , who previously supported Indomita during the European Canoe Championships (2008 and 2009) and the 2014 World Championships, also agreed to support the Rafting event, guaranteeing not only the release of water necessary for the racing, bit also plenty of "energy" for the event.
