Adda Viva Indomita Valtellina River is "indomitable" by name and by nature.
Founded in 1984 by Benedetto Del Zoppo, a long-time enthusiast of white water sports, today Indomita is Lombardy's number-one rafting and outdoor centre.
Initially little more than a group of friends united by their passion for river sports, over the years it has become a sports association that has helped make canoeing, kayak and rafting history in Lombardy, like the great river companies in Trentino and the Aosta Valley, where such sports are far more common and, in terms of tourism, attract huge numbers of visitors every year.
And our beautiful river Adda, in proportion to those of Trentino and Aosta, can also draw similar numbers.
Remember that between spring and early autumn every year Indomita accompanies some 10,000 visitors who choose the Valtellina for holidays or weekend breaks.
However, Indomita has also always been synonymous with commitment to sport for the young, with over 40 young professional members, some of whom are already attracting interest from national federations.
And Indomita is not new to international events either. It can be credited for having brought two editions of the European Canoe Championships to the Valtellina in 2008 and 2009, as well as the World Canoe Championships in 2019.
Following a pause of several years due to the recent pandemic, Indomita decided to relaunch by bringing international rafting to the rapids of the Adda.
The challenge was welcomed in the area thanks to the support of regional and local institutions, as well as the major energy companies, always big fans of river sports.
